Dinosaurs in Vegas!

We took a quick trip to St. George and Vegas after Christmas. It was good to get away and enjoy time with my mom and dad and Steve's dad and family. Krista's family came too and it was fun to have the grand kids with us. Brooklyn loves Great Grandpa's singing fish and had a wonderful time with Dallin. Dallin is such a good cousin and watched out for her. The highlight of our trip was an excursion to the Natural History Museum in Las Vegas. I love that museum and it holds great memories of taking all my little preschool kiddies there. It was fun to take Brooklyn and to see how much it has changed.

CHRISTMAS!

Christmas is my most favorite time of year! I love all the family time and the spirit that is associated with the Christmas Season. We celebrated Christmas early with Shauna and Sam as it was their year to go to Alton. We got to have everyone else over for a short Christmas Eve program and lots of yummy treats. We enjoyed having Daniel and Nicole even though they were supposed to be in AZ but because of the baby were "stuck" with us. Christmas Morning we went to Krista's and Chris' first and watched the girls open presents and played. Brooklyn and I made Kneaders yummy French Toast for everyone and then we headed off to church with Daniel and Nicole. After that we came to our house to open more presents and enjoy each others company. Later we went to Daniel and Nicole's for a yummy Ham and potatoe dinner. It was Nicole's first ham and it was very delicious. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful, loving family who enjoys spending time together. I LOVE MY FAMILY!

Christmas Fun!

We took the girls to see Santa at The Festival of the Trees and they were all so cute. None of them cried and Ryelle was so funny just looking at Santa. They wanted Shauna to download that picture for them. All Brooklyn wants is a Candy Cane.

We babysat Brooklyn and Makayla while Krista and Chris went out for Krista's birthday. We made gingerbread houses and watched "Tangled" and read lots of Christmas stories. It was a fun night and Brooklyn spent the night with us. We woke up and made "animal shaped waffles" and read some more stories. We had a great time! Soon all the girls will be sleeping over and it will be even more exciting.

Grandkids

We have had so much fun with all these cute little grand daughters. Brooklyn is growing like a weed and loves to come and play at grandma's and grandpa's house. Ryelle is such a sweetheart and is so content and happy most of the time. Our sweet little Makayla is so fun to hold and enjoy. We are so blessed!!

Brooklyn went on the Parade of Homes with us and I couldn't resist adding a photo of her in her booties. She was such a trooper to get dragged along everywhere with us.

San Diego

Steve and I went to San Diego the end of August just for a fun and much needed get-away. We enjoyed the nice Lawerence Welk Villa's that we stayed in and we enjoyed just spending time together. We went to Sea World, the San Diego Zoo, the beach, Kayaking, and sailing and just spend time relaxing by the pool. We enjoyed the great weather and the great seafood in San Diego. It was a nice relaxing trip for us.

4th of July!

I am so lucky to have everyone live so close so we can celebrate together! We had a great 4th of July Celebration. Steve and I went to Stadium of Fire on the 2nd of July. It was a great show and makes you remember and appreciate this great country we live in. We are so blessed and take it for granted so much.

We had a BBQ here at our house on the 4th and it was so much fun to be with everyone. Ryelle is changing every day and we love having her in our family. Brooklyn loves her and can't keep her hands off of her. It is fun to watch Shauna and Krista be the great mothers that they are.

Murder Mystery Party

Daniel and Nicole hosted a Murder Mystery Party for us. We all dressed up and tried to solve the murder. It was fun to be at Daniel and Nicole's new home and enjoy their hospitality. We had fun taking on our various roles and enjoying each others company. I love having everyone so close and enjoying such great family time together. I am so lucky to have children who want to be around their family and spend time together.

Thriller

Last night was a great Girl's night out! Krista, Shauna, Nicole and I went to see the Odyssey Dance Theater perform at Kingsbury Hall last night. I think we are making it a yearly tradition to go to "Thriller". It was fun to spend time with all of my favorite girls. It's a fun show and it gets me in the mood for a "Spooky Halloween".

I saw these cute "Flirty Aprons" at the mall about a year ago and really wanted to buy one. I loved the fabrics that they had but they were $30. Who wants to spend $30 on an apron. I knew I could make one but never got around to it. There was always so much else going on. I finally found a pattern I liked and then found some fabric I liked. I started it Friday night and then finished on Saturday. It didn't take too long and now the next one will probably go faster. I've never been much into wearing aprons but maybe I will save some of my clothes if I wear this cute one.

SoJo Half Marathon!

In May, Shauna and I started training to run a half marathon. She chose SoJo (South Jordan) because it was mostly down hill and since we are first timers she decided that it would be best for us. We trained when we could but had a few set backs. First, I hurt my calf on one of our runs and as much I tried to keep running, I kept hurting until I finally took a month off. Then, Shauna hurt her back and that set us back a little too. Between all our different schedules and set-backs and illnesses we did manage to do some training. We were only able to do one "long" run, but we were feeling OK with all that we had been doing. We were slow but still did OK.

This morning was our race! They started a little late and we did pretty good. I hit a wall at about mile 9, my hip was hurting pretty bad by this time but we kept on going but I was slowing down quite a bit. By mile 12 I was struggling but kept on going. Shauna was great to stick with me, even though she could have gone faster. We did it in a little under 2:40. I am just happy that we finished and we weren't last in each of our age brackets.

Steve was so nice to meet us at the finish line with flowers for us and then took us to get smoothies. It was a great accomplishment for both Shauna and I and I am glad she talked me into it.

Last Bit of Summer Fun!

Krista, Brooklyn, our neighbor, Janet and I went up to Midway for Swiss Days. It was fun to get away for the afternoon and enjoy the festivities of Swiss Days. We had fun shopping and eating. I tried my first Navajo Taco and we ate yummy strawberries and cream and a very yummy scone. We bought lots of fun things for the house and yard. It was pretty hot up there but it was a great day!

Most of the family went to see "Lion King" at the Capitol Theater on Saturday night. It was a great performance and the costumes were spectacular. The music was great and I loved some of the new songs. We had the best seats too which made it even better.

Shauna, Sam, Steve, and I went rafting down the Provo River on Labor Day! We had a fun time once we finally figured out how to row together. Our family has way too many control freaks and so it so funny to watch us do something like that. I think we would be great on The Amazing Race. It was fun to float down the river and enjoy the day.

Now it is time for me to get back to work. School has started again and I need to get back into the swing of things. I am excited for a great year with the kids again. I have been working really hard on getting things ready for the kids.

Hot Air Balloon Ride!

This morning we got up at 4:30AM so we could get up to Park City for our Hot Air Balloon ride. Now, when we were in Park City we had this scheduled and so we woke up at 5:30 that morning just to be told that we couldn't go up because there was too much wind. Last week we were scheduled again and woke up at 4:30 and got all ready and then called up there and were told the very same thing as before. We were beginning to think we never get to do this Hot Air Balloon ride, which by the way, we had already paid for. So, this morning we tried it again. The third time must be a charm because we actually got to go up this morning. They said there was barely enough wind this time. Crazy!

We had a good time and the view was spectacular. Our "pilot" was a very seasoned balloon pilot and had lots of stories to tell. The morning was beautiful and we even saw a deer running through the brush. It was GREAT! Thanks to my hubby for planning the ride!

Brooklyn

Brooklyn is growing so fast and we have so much fun together when she comes to visit Grandma. I love having her every Wednesday and we have so much fun together.

There are two cute little neighbor boys that I have taught in preschool and they are always coming over to visit me. Since I have been watching Brooklyn they now come over every day to see Brooklyn. Instead wanting to see me now, as soon as I come to the door they ask me if Brooklyn is here. When they see Krista's car in the driveway they run over and say where's Brooklyn. It is so cute! She has 2 boyfriends already. They love to come in and play with her and they can get her so excited and laughing so hard.

Park City Fun!

We went to Park City for the week to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We had a great time and it was so nice to just have a close get away. We went on the Alpine Slide, the Coaster, and the Zip Line and had a fun time just enjoying the day. I got a little sun-burned and totally ruined my spray on tan that was supposed to even up this farmers tan I always have. Too bad I still have the farmers tan. Oh well!

We went horseback riding at Deer Valley, hiking at Mirror Lake with Brooklyn, shopping at the outlets with Krista and Brooklyn, sailing on the Jordanelle Reservoir, and enjoyed the "Disco Drippers" and watched fireworks with all the kids. Now it is back to reality but we had a great vacation, close to home, but far enough to forget the stresses of normal day life.

Catching Up

Devin is doing well on his mission. He is immersing himself in the work. He is in a little town called Prineville. It is close to Redmond and Bend. He has been teaching the gospel to others and has a baptism scheduled for Saturday and another for the 4th of July. He is excited for the one on the 4th because he will have taught the 2 girls the gospel from the beginning and then get to see them baptized. We are so proud of him and the example he sets for everyone else. He is not too close to Justin but will be able to see him in a few weeks at a Zone Conference. He said he thinks the mission president was kind and scheduled their two zones at the same time so they could see each other. That will be a fun day for them to see each other and to be able to share missionary experiences. It is so great to have so many wonderful missionaries in our lives.

We just recently went to St. George for the Kemple Family Reunion. It was fun to see so many of our family attending. The traditional Pine Valley reunion didn't happen this year because we got rained on. Thanks to Uncle Chuck we were able to go to his home and he opened up his basement for all of us to mingle and enjoy each other. They paid tribute to Grandma and Grandpa Kemple and Uncle Tom who have passed on and then to Uncle Richard. It was a nice program and it great to have such a wonderful Family Heritage. We are very lucky to be part of this great family.

Devin is going to Oregon!

Today is the day Devin is flying out to Oregon. I am anxiously waiting for that phone while he is at the airport. Steve decided to see if he could catch a glimpse of him so he is up at the airport. I didn't want to miss my phone call!

Devin is so excited to be heading to the mission field and is going to be a great missionary. He has done very well in the MTC and has helped his companion and others learn the gospel. I am so impressed with his letters and his attitude. We are lucky to have such a wonderful young man as our son!

Missionary Farewell!

Devin's "Missionary Farewell" was yesterday. It was a great day and we had a lot of friends and family who were able to attend. Devin and Steve both gave great talks! It was a wonderful day and I am so proud of Devin as he gets ready to embark on this new page in his life.

California Adventure!

We had a great time in California this past week. Shauna decided to organize a trip for us all so we could spend some good quality time with Devin before he leaves on his mission. The only bad part was that Daniel and Nicole couldn't come with us.

We went to the beach, to Disneyland, to the L.A. Zoo, and to Magic Mountain. We had a fun time and it was good to be together as a family. We all survived each other and enjoyed being together. It was Brooklyn's first time for everything and we all enjoyed taking turns holding her and loving her and playing with her. Thanks Shauna for planning a great trip!

American Fork Canyon

It was a beautiful day for a picnic today so we went up American Fork Canyon for a nice afternoon with family and friends. We had a barbeque and enjoyed the peace and quiet and the great company. Thanks Sam and Chris for always being the great Chef's you are. Nice way to spend Sunday afternoon.

On March 7, 2010 Devin turned 19! We had everyone over to celebrate his birthday and to also celebrate his mission papers being turned in.

Wednesday, March 17th we had everyone over again to celebrate the mission call. Devin is going to be serving in the OR, Eugene mission, English speaking. He will be leaving May 12th. We are very excited to have Devin serve a mission and serve the Lord. He is a great son and a good example to all his friends.

We are especially excited for Devin to go this mission because he will be in the same mission as his cousin. Linda's boy, Justin, is in the same mission and we are hoping they will get to be companions. Devin was sure he wouldn't get to see Justin until his 2 years were up but now we hope he will get to see him in the mission field.

Mediterranean Cruise

I know this is a long time coming but I am finally getting around to posting some pictures of the cruise I took with my dad and the aunts and uncles. We had such a good time and I am so blessed to have spent this time with my dad. It was fun to get to know the aunts and uncles better and to enjoy the wonderful, once in a life time sights that we were able to see. We went to Rome first and stayed on day there and then boarded the ship. We went to Naples and there we were able to explore Pompeii and Herculaneum. It was an awesome thing to walk the streets of Pompeii with Mt. Vesuvius looming in the background. I was amazed at how much of the place was still standing. We then went Athens and got to see the Olympic Stadium, the Acropolis, and the Parthenon. We then went to Turkey and got to see the ruins at Ephesus and see the home that is supposedly Mary's, mother of Jesus and the wailing wall. We went to Istanbul and saw the Blue Mosque and explored a palace there and enjoyed shopping at the Grand Bazaar. We then went to Mykonos, Greece and enjoyed the quaint little village there. Then, we went on to Egypt and stayed over night in Cairo. We saw the Giza Pyramids and rode camels and enjoyed the unique culture there. Then back to Rome for a few more days. It was a fabulous trip and I know the pictures won't even come close to doing it justice. I had a great time!

As you can tell I have neglected the blog this past few months. Life has been very busy with church callings, preschool, and just busy in general. We have enjoyed spending time together as a family and Steve and I both had the opportunity to spend time traveling with our dads. I went on a Mediterranean Cruise and toured Greece, Italy, Turkey, and Egypt. Steve went to Mexico and Guatamala and toured the Book of Mormon sites down there. I will post pictures soon.

We wish everyone a Happy New Year and hope all is well with everyone. We are lucky to have everyone close and are going to relish the next few months as Daniel finishes school. We don't know where jobs will take them but a mom could only hope that they stay close. We enjoy Brooklyn every day as they have been living with us for the past few months as they try to save and find a home close by. We are truly blessed and are grateful for family!

Florida Trip!

We went to Florida the middle of August. We took Devin, Shauna, and Daniel. We spent 7 days having a "Magical" time in the Wonderful World of Disney. It was fun to spend time with the kids. Shauna and I went to a Cirque de Sole' show while the boys had fun at Disney Quest. We also enjoyed all the theme parks and the water parks. It was a great change of pace and we enjoyed spending time together.

Brooklyn is doing so well. Today they took her off the CPAP machine. She is not on any medications or any machines any more. Krista and Chris got to hold her today and they also got to give her a bath. We are so excited! We are hoping Krista will get to feed her tomorrow. It is only a matter of time now. It is so fun being a grandma. I got to change a diaper today. I am so lucky Krista and Chris let me spend so much time with them. Thanks for all the prayers and phone calls of concern!

Update on Brooklyn

Today was a great day for Brooklyn. They were able to take her off the ventilator today. They put her on a CPAP machine which is a step in the right direction. They are weining her off her medication and she is doing well. She is stable and holding her own. We got to spend more time with her today and they are also feeding her some of Krista's milk. She even gained an ounce since she was born. Krista got to change her diaper today and we are hoping we can hold her soon. Thanks to everyone for all your prayers.

Brooklyn Nicole Warnick

July 31st Krista and Chris had our sweet Brooklyn. Brooklyn weighed 7 lbs. 13 oz. and is 20 inches long. She is a cutie and is such a fighter. She has had a few problems and is in the NICU at Utah Valley. She has what they are calling right now Meconium Aspiration. Essentially that is that she had a bowel movement in the womb and then swallowed or gasped some of it into her lungs when she was born. She is progressing slowly but will have to be in the hospital for a little while. The have her on a ventilator and are keeping her sedated. They are trying to get all of the meconium out of her lungs and keep her stable. Krista and Chris are doing well but are both really tired. Krista did great in the delivery and is so strong. EVERYONE please remember our baby in your prayers.
We are still very emotional so if you need to call please call me, not Krista!

Family Reunion

We had a family reunion for everyone, all my siblings and their families. Jimmy and his family wasn't able to make it. We camped one night, we went on the Skytram at Snowbird, the Dinosaur Museum at Thanksgiving Point, the Aquarium, the Zoo, the Planetarium. It was a busy, fun filled, packed three days.

Eagle Court of Honor

Devin's Eagle Court of Honor was also this past weekend. We have been busy! It was a nice program and thanks to all the family who made an effort to attend. We are all glad that Devin accomplished this feat and that he has now received the award.

High School Graduation

We are very proud of Devin. He graduated from Lehi High School on Friday, May 29th at the Marriot Center on BYU campus. He is a great kid and we are excited that he plans to attend BYU in the fall. He will be living in Helaman Halls and so we will be Empty Nesters. We are getting a taste of that this week as he is in California having fun with his friends and celebrating graduating.

Soccer

This years soccer season has been a lot of fun. Devin has started almost every Varsity game and they have had a great season. They ended taking first seed in our Region, tying with Timpanogos High School. We played two games in the State Finals and lost to Viewmont. Lehi High School was the first High School to play in the new Rio Tinto Stadium. We played Copper Hills and beat them 2-0. It has been fun to watch Devin play and grow in his sport. We will miss going to the games, freezing at the games, and most of all enjoying watching Devin play the game he loves so much.

Working Hard!

At the beginning of the year I told everyone that I wanted to lose some weight. I have been working really hard and am still working hard. I have been asked at Curves to do a before and after picture and write a short paragraph about my hard work. Since I am feeling pretty good about things, I am sharing with everyone. I have lost 27 pounds and still want to lose more. It is possible to live pretty normal and still lose weight. Now, the trick is to keep it off.

New News!

I am going to try to update some of the new things in our lives.

1. Devin got accepted to BYU and will be attending in the fall.
2. Daniel had his 25th birthday!
3. Steve had surgery on his eye. They were able to correct quite a few things and he is doing pretty good. He is in some pain and has some discomfort still. He still has to wear a patch and he doesn't like that. It will be a few more weeks with the patch.
4. Devin finally got all his paperwork turned in for his Eagle and we should be having the board of review soon and then we can plan a Court of Honor.
5. After a tedious and nerve wracking (for mom) soccer try-out Devin is on the Lehi High Soccer team again this year.
5. Today is Devin's 18th birthday and we are having a party tonight with all his friends. Should be fun!

That is our life in a nut-shell. We are all fine but I, especially have been crazy busy!

We are pretty boring

We have had a fairly nice, not too interesting month. I survived the first week of intense dieting, no chocolate all week long. I am craving something sweet but am determined to stick to the plan. I have been exercising all week, too.

The snow just keeps piling up and Steve is snow shoveling addict. He shovels even when it is still snowing. He is crazy! He is the joke of the neighborhood because he even shovels the street. I appreciate his hard work and he was in heaven when I told him one of the preschool kids asked me how my driveway is always so clear. It is snowing again so he will be shoveling again tomorrow.

We went the BYU basketball game Saturday night against San Diego. It was a great game and BYU won! BYU was ahead the whole game but at the end they almost gave it away. We stayed almost until the bitter end. It was fun and we got to spend some time with Linda and Mark. We didn't get any of the royal treatments Krista and Chris got because we were way up in the nose bleeds but we still had fun. Darn, I am getting old, I have forgotten the BYU fight song. Oh, well, it was fun to try to remember the words. Go BYU!!!!

New Year's Resolutions!

We went to Vegas the day after Christmas and enjoyed the wonderful warm weather there. We had fun visiting with relatives and lots of old friends. If we didn't get to see you, we ran out of time. We rang in the New Year with everyone playing Rock Band, they even got me to sing a few songs, playing games, and eating lots and lots of junk. We had a great time and reluctantly returned to the "Frozen Tundra" on Traverse Mountain. It was good to get home even though it has been extremely cold, BRRRRR!!!!

Now that we are home it is time to start thinking about all those New Year's Resolutions that I should write down but usually don't take the time to do it. That is probably why they usually don't get accomplished. I will start with my most and foremost resolution. I want to get healthier this year and so am going to try to exercise every day and eat better, hoping that I will lose that extra 50 pounds that I have been carrying around. That is my number one goal. One day down and I did pretty good. Now I need to try not to eat anything else today!

I also want to try to get into a better routine at reading my scriptures and reading the Ensign, personal prayers and maybe even take up journal writing. Those are all the goals that I usually have every year. Another one for this year is to get more organized and weed out some of the "stuff" that I have been hanging on to for way too long. I know, I know, a lot of you already think that I am pretty organized but, hey, how can I stay organized if I don't keep setting those kinds of goals. I also would like to get my scrapbooking for my Alaska trip and my China trip done. Well, those are a few of the goals I have. I would like to include another trip to somewhere exotic but I think our finances need to recover for a few years.

Completing Devin's Eagle

I am sorry that I have neglected the blog lately. Life during the holidays has hit!

Devin completed the last part of his Eagle Project. We raised the flag pole and had a nice flag ceremony. Devin asked the Cub Scouts to come and do the flag ceremony. The guy who sold us the flag pole came and helped and gave a great talk on patriotism. It was pretty cool because you could hear the artillary going off at Camp Williams during the raising of the flag. Steve said we had the "Rockets bursting in air". Now we need to get the write up done and then schedule the court of honor. Hopefully it will be soon after the first of the year.

Steve and all the kids threw a surprise birthday party for Sherri's 50th birthday. It is hard to pick which pictures so I picked quite a few. I was surprised but also taken back by how many people showed up. It was a fun evening and I enjoyed all the friends and family making an effort to support me on this milestone of a birthday. No, I do not feel like I am 50! Thanks to all my family for working so hard to make it such a great party!

Halloween Party

Shauna had a Halloween Party last Saturday and I am just getting around to posting some pictures. We had fun! She had tons of great food. We played games and enjoyed each others company. It was great! Thanks Shauna!

Devin's Eagle Project

We spent most of the day working on Devin's Eagle Project. He has been ready to do the project since we moved here but things have been at stand still until now. He is putting a flag pole in at the church that we attend. Daniel did the same project in Vegas and so did Uncle Kerry. It is becoming the Davis trademark for Eagle Projects.

He has been working on the first phase of the project, paper work and the fund raiser. Today we did the second phase of the project. We dug the hole, put the sleeve into the ground, and cemented it all in so that the flag pole will be secure. We had lots of help from the family and our great Home Teachers. It was a success!

Snowing in October

It snowed all day yesterday and most of the night. Last week Devin played soccer in the rain and this week he played soccer in the snow. It is too cold for October. This is what we woke up to this morning. It still hasn't melted all the way yet. This is CRAZY! It is fall not winter. I am not ready for the cold yet. I will deal with it!!! That's what we get for living on a mountain. Daniel said it didn't even snow in Provo and Devin's friends said it barely snowed down in Lehi.

Soccer in the rain

Today was a great soccer playing day! This was our first real game in the cold and rainy weather. The highlight of today was that Devin, who is a defender, scored the first goal of the game. He was so stoked! It was wet, slippery, and cold for the boys but we played a good game. I have learned that they don't cancel a soccer game here in Utah for anything except lightening. We have played in rain, snow, and hail and anything else you can imagine. Devin always says they play better in the cold. It is always fun as a parent to sit in that kind of weather. (And I thought the heat in Vegas was bad!)

Scout Falls

Last Saturday Shauna, Sam, Steve and I went on a hike up American Fork Canyon. It was only about a mile and half up to a nice waterfall. We had a great time and enjoyed the scenery. Sam was our photographer. It is nice to live so close to places we can enjoy. There were lots of hikers on the trail but they were all coming down. We started late in the day and they kept asking us if we going all the way to the Summit. We only hiked to the waterfall but enjoyed the day. It was a nice day!

Relief Society Party

Okay, so we just recently did a Relief Society party at my house. We had a Hawaiian Luau and were planning to have it outside but because of the wonderful Utah weather we had to move it inside. We had planned to have this cool "Tiki Bar" set up in the backyard and when we moved it inside we put it up in the kitchen. It turned out pretty cool. Just thought I would share a few pictures to show how cute it all turned out. Everyone had a good time and we got almost everyone there. Thanks to everyone who helped!

Devin's Senior Pictures

We just got Devin's senior pictures back and thought I would post a few on here. He is a Senior at Lehi High School. He is doing well in school and we are very proud of him. Last year he had a 4.0 all year long. He is taking 2 AP classes this year and a concurrent enrollment class at UVU. He loves soccer and is playing for the Lehi Arsenal Soccer Club right now. He plays all year long if he can. He also will play for the High School team in the spring. He works at the Firehouse Carwash in American Fork and still manages to have a social life. We hardly ever see him because he is always so busy with school, church, soccer, work, and friends.

Our First Cruise

Last summer we celebrated my mom and dad's 50th wedding anniversary. We had everyone up here to Utah for a celebration and then we all went on a cruise together. My parents love cruising and it was the first cruise for all of us except them. We had a great time. We did the short California to Mexico cruise. We went to San Diego first and took a tour of the Midway Aircraft Carrier. My dad was in the Navy so we loved going on the Navy ship. We, then went to Catalina Island where we did Kayaking and snorkeling and then walked around and enjoyed the cute, quaint little town there. We went to Ensenada next and there we had so much fun bargaining and shopping on the main drag there. I loved the cruise and would love to go on many more cruises. We had Daniel, Nicole, Devin, Steve and I there from our family.

Alaska

Also, last summer Shauna and I went on a cruise to Alaska. I flew to Seattle to meet her and spent a few days there while she was working. I love Seattle. Then, we drove to Vancouver, Canada to catch our boat. We went to Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchican. We had a great time and with Shauna, every day was an adventure. She had me riding bikes on the Klondike trail, zip-lining through the rain forest, and hiking all over the place. We rode the train that followed the Klondike trail too. On our zip-lining adventure we saw lots of wildlife including a bear and some eagles. We had fun shopping and eating all the yummy food on the ship. Our favorite night was lobster night. We each had three lobster tails and probably could have had more but decided we better stop. It was a wonderful time and a good chance for Shauna and I to have some time together. The highlight of trip was cruising through the Hubbard Glacier. It was one of the most spectacular sites I have ever seen. Going through the ice was a little eerie as you could hear the ice cracking as we cruised through. Watching the glacier calve was amazing. We thought we would only get to see it happen once if we were lucky but we got to see it happen over a dozen times and it was so cool.

China

The past April I got the chance to go China with Shauna and my sister, Linda. Shauna had to do some more work in Shanghai and so she invited me to come along and Linda tagged along too. We had such a great time!

We first flew to Hong Kong and spent two days there. The first day we took the ferry to Victoria Peak. It was very foggy and so the view was not too great until a little later. We waited around for the fog to lift and then were able to see the great view of Hong Kong. We went to the little fishing village of Aberdeen and got to see the fish market. The fish were all around in buckets and tanks. It was pretty cool. We also rode a SamPan and ate Dim Sum on a floating restaurant. We went to visit a temple and then the clock tower. We saw some great Olympic stuff too. The highlight of Hong Kong was attending the temple the next day. We got to wear the head phones and even took a family name through the temple for a sweet little Chinese sister that we met there. We took the cable car up the Big Buddah and then had to head to the airport.

Our next stop was Guillen. A quaint little town of 700,00 people. It was my first experience of the crazy driving in China. Horns honking, cars, bikes, motorcycle, and buses all going every which way. The next morning we took the river ride up the Li River to a little town called Yangsho. The trip down the river was beautiful. Mountains like I have never seen before. One of my favorite parts of the trip was this river ride and the time in Yangsho. We saw a show on the river that night that was directed by the same guy that did the opening and closing ceremonies for the Olympics. We rented bikes and rode to this bridge to watch the sunrise. It was a little overcast but it was still a beautiful site. We rode bikes all around this little town and hiked Moon Hill, spectacular view. We ate rice noodles at a little hole in the wall and went to this really cool water cave. We could touch all the stalactites and stalagmites. They had a big mud pool and Shauna was the bravest of us all and got in. It was cold and so I was not too thrilled about it. It was a fun experience.

Linda and I were on to Xi'an to see the Terra Cotta Warriors. The warriors are a fairly recent discovery and they were very interesting to see. We loved it but it was fast. We we there only one day and then on to Beijing. We saw the Forbidden City, Tianamen Square, and the Summer Palace all in one day. It was raining the whole day so we were drenched when we got back to our hostel but we loved it. All the history was fascinating. The next day we went to the Great Wall. What a spectacular site. We walked for two and half hours and seemed to go nowhere. I learned a lot about myself the three days we were not with Shauna. I learned that I can survive in a country where there is huge language barrier and that I can manage to get myself around. It was out of my comfort zone and we went in circles a few times but we did get to go everywhere we wanted to.

Then we were onto Tunxi. Shauna was supposed to meet up with us again but had flight troubles. Her blog tells you about her adventures when she wasn't with us. Linda and I went on to Tunxi by ourselves. We were getting better at getting around by ourselves. We booked our transportation up to Huanghan Mountain (Yellow Mountain) and hoped Shauna would catch up with the next day. We rode the Cable Car up the mountain the next morning. It was beautiful as we ascended up the mountain and got into the fog. We checked into our hotel and hiked around. It was amazing as we would stand in one place and watch the fog move. It was beautiful! Shauna was able to join us the next morning and we hiked the remainder of the day all up and down the mountain and then took a different Cable Car down the mountain. I would love to go back when it is not raining and foggy.

Our next and last stop was Shanghai. Shauna had to work while Linda and I explore Shanghai. By this time we were getting pretty good at finding our way around. We went to the Aquarium, the museum, walked on The Bund, rode to the top of Pearl Tower, went to the Urban Planning Center and went to a really cool Circus show. We rode the subway everywhere. We ate all kinds of different foods but my favorite was all the seafood. On our last day we went Yi Yuan Gardens and then we went shopping. Shopping was an adventure because you can bargain with the people just like you do in Mexico. I had a cashmere coat tailor made and so we had to pick up my coat too. We bought all kind of souvenirs. We rode the Magluv train back to the airport for our return trip home. Shauna had to stay a few weeks longer to work. It was such a great trip I am ready to go again. I love to travel and Shauna is a great tour guide.

Getting Started

I decided to try out this blogging thing that everyone is so crazy about. I am not very computer savy but, will see if I can figure out how this works. It will be an adventure to try to figure it all out.

We, the Davis Family have all migrated to Utah. We miss our home in Las Vegas but are all glad to be in the same place. We feel lucky that we are able to spend so much time together.

Steve, Devin and I are in Lehi and are loving our new home and our ward. Steve is one of the Gospel Doctrine Teachers, I am the Relief Society President, and Devin is the First Assistant in the Priest Quorum in our ward. These callings keep us busy but we love serving the Lord. Devin is entering his Senior year of High School at Lehi High and is taking two AP classes and a concurrent enrollment class at UVU. He is doing well and has made some great friends since we have moved up here. He is one of the captains on his club soccer team and is gearing up for High School soccer again too. He is a defender now and just eats, sleeps and breathes soccer. He is a good kid and we enjoy having him around when he is home. He is also working at Firehouse Car wash in American Fork and is doing so well. He was employee of the month after only having been there a few months and is now being considered for an afternoon supervisor position.
Steve is still at Zions Bank and seems to enjoy his job there. He has started running every morning and has worked hard at losing weight and trying to get in shape. He has lost 50 lbs and is keeping it off. We are all proud of him and his efforts. He loves to hike and enjoy the beautiful mountains we have around us but we don't get to go as often as he would like. As for me, I am kept extremely busy with Relief Society and I am doing preschool again up here. My love for the children has motivated me to get started again. This year I am only doing two classes which I think is where I will try to stay. It allows me to spend time with the children and enjoy their enthusiasm but still have plenty of freedom to do what I want to in the afternoons. I have enjoyed making new friends and re-connecting with some old friends since we have moved up here.

Shauna and Sam have just recently re-located to Utah. Sam got a new job working in Salt Lake and so they made the decision to move here. I am thrilled to have them here. It was a struggle to get from Texas to here but they are finally getting settled. They just bought a house in Highland and are attempting to get settled. Shauna is still working for Microsoft and is still able to work from home. Sam is liking his new job. They are still trying to get everything organized and get settled in their new home but seem to be adjusting OK. Shauna is also coaching gymnastics at a gym that she coached at when she was at BYU.

Daniel and Nicole are still living in Provo and are going to school at BYU. Daniel is working towards a Computer Science degree and Nicole is working toward an Elementary Education degree. Nicole is doing her student teaching this semester and will be done in December. Daniel still has another year and a half left. They are both working, as well. Daniel is working at Convergys and Nicole is working at the library at BYU.

Krista and Chris bought a town home in Eagle Mountain and are liking it out there. Krista graduated from Bon Losee and is now working in a really nice salon in West Jordan. It is called Kellie and Company and she is doing really well. She loves doing hair and we all benefit greatly from her talent. She is enjoying fixing up her new home and has a talent for that as well. She likes to help me update and fix up my home too. Chris is at UVU as a business major and also works full-time at Stewart's Pest Control. He is a hard worker and is getting close to finishing school. Chris recently finished the basement in their new home and did most of the work himself. He did a great job and it has added to the value of their home. He and Krista learned a lot in the process and they are happy to have the extra space.

We are lucky to be able to spend so much time together as a family and feel extremely blessed to be so close to each other right now. As you can tell, we are blessed with wonderful children and those that are married have chosen wonderful spouses. It's great to see your children grow up and become such wonderful adults.
